FOOD TIP: How big is a snack?

So just how big should a snack be? Most of us tend to eat too much for a snack and wonder why we can't lose weight or are putting on weight. However, snacking doesn't have to be fatten and if you keep your portions small, you can enjoy both indulgences and healthy options.
Snacks should contain less than 600kJ. Some tasty snack ideas that you could choose include:

  • 150g tub of low fat yoghurt or Fruche
  • Fruit salad
  • 1 Tim Tam
  • Slice of raisin toast with margarine
  • 30g of nuts which is equal to 20 almonds or 15 cashews
  • 25g Mars Bars (Fun Size)
  • 40g of sultanas
  • 1 cup of popcorn

Remember though snacks like Tim Tams and Mars Bars are not every day foods, and should be limited to once or twice a week. Happy snacking!
