Healthy Weight Week: 24th-31st January

The number of overweight Aussies is increasing, with 7.4 million now overweight or obese. That’s two thirds of adults and one quarter of our children. To help combat the rising obesity rates, the Dietitians Association of Australia has launched Australia’s Healthy Weight Week – it’s a time for all Australians to eat better, feel better and move more NOW!

So, for the last week of January, why not try the DAA’s Take 10 in 2010 and complete 10 steps towards healthy weight loss in 2010:

1. Eat breakfast
2. 
Include vegetables or salad with lunch or dinner
3. 
Choose fruit as a snack
4. 
Replace full-fat food and drinks with reduced-fat alternatives
5. Choose wholegrain foods in place of more refined ones
6. Eat smaller servings sizes by using smaller plates and glasses
7. Eat slowly and stop when you are satisfied not stuffed full
8. 
Eat when you genuinely feel hungry rather than for emotional or other reasons
9. 
Swap sweetened beverages such as cordial, soft drink and juice with water
10. Eat your evening meal at the dinner table with the TV turned off
